This week was very productive for me. I finished a huge mailing, finished a list of Bookstore-Cafes, posted blog posts (of course), filled up the Tumblr queue, starred in a 2 second SnapChat about what it’s like to intern at Quirk, came up with some Book Bento-esque ideas, organized the Marketing bookshelf, picked winners for the #PPZ Swag Bag giveaway (which I’m still getting entries for-IT’S CLOSED PEOPLE), answered/forwarded messages for the contact us sheet, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand found jumping off points for the Blog Sky meeting for May.
Lauren and I have been going through the contact us sheet, and fielding emails to our own quirk emails about internships and some people have great questions about the experience-how many hours, what experience is best, etc. Some people are emailing the interns to ask if Quirk offers internships.
A little forethought. That’s all I ask.
From Week #9:
What a busy Monday. Lots of blog posts, images for Women’s History Month, thinking about Dr. Seuss’s birthday, jumping off points for blog posts for April, special excerpt posts, giveaways, pictures for Quirk Perks, and finally getting the signed movie posters all packaged up.
Oh! And I applied to Abrams Children’s Publishing as for a social media and publicity assistant position and obviously did not get it.
Bet you’re wondering where week 9 went. Well being sick doesn’t really lend itself to interning very well.
So here’s week #10!
Lot’s of blog posts about all things Irish and one exceptionally long post coming to a nice 2,000 words. Could not believe that blogger sent that in. I re-wrote the whole thing. And that took me a lot longer than I expected.
I also worked on a big project this week by documenting all the social media highlights for the past couple of months to track the social media growth across the networks.
And now I’m working on a taxonomy project. So I’m looking at the full list of books that Quirk has published and categorizing them for better suggestions on the blog widget. And it’s going to take a while.
Last week, Lauren and I sent out 160 shot glasses with Last Call at Nightshade Lounge, I cant believe we wrapped all those up and still got out on time.
Spring break next week! See you guys for March 21 through March 25!
I just sent off my resume and cover letter for a social media internship at Quirk Books!
I really hope I get it!
As many of you know (or may have suspected) I just want to work with books. I didn’t start to love reading until I was 11 years old. Think of all the reading time I missed out on because of that!
And so I want to go into Children’s Publishing because I want to be part of a team who draws a child into reading so that no one else misses out on all the fun!
Wish me luck everyone!
Let’s talk about work. My work. My lack of work… the company I work for currently is about to switch data programs and so I haven’t been able to open any orders. Which, as you can imagine, has made my December incredibly boring.
Now, most people are happy to get paid for doing nothing. In fact, I know a great many people who would absolutely love it. Let me explain that the nothing I have been doing has not been in my home. I don’t get to take a nap in the afternoon. And I sit in front of my boss which makes it a little hard to goof off and/or read. The first day that I had nothing to do–not that bad.
The 30th day that I had nothing to do–agony.
